PFA Player of the Year

The PFA player of the year short list was put out. It consists of Scott Parker, Carlos Tevez, Gareth Bale, Samir Nasri, Charlie Adam, Rafael van der Vaart and Nemanja Vidic.

Scott Parker has been an inspiration to West Ham and their revival in the 2nd half of the season and definitely gets my nod onto the short list. He started the season slowly when the Hammers were struggling. He’s showed real character and determination to lead by example though and helped west Ham off the foot of the table.
I don't think he will be at West Ham next season with Arsenal and Spurs lurking around for his signature, he is a quality player.
Carlos Tevez is probably many people’s favorite. He has fought for everything, shown brilliance to score 19 goals this season. He has definitely been a stand out player on the list and has often carried City's Champion's League aspirations on his own. although i have lost respect for him, he is a great player that has and does score important goals. His work rate and passion on the field is an asset to City.

Samir Nasri, the little Frenchman was phenomenal in the beginning of the season. He won games on his own with his brilliant skill and technique. He has even been called the “future of French football” by Zidane, the French legend. Personally, I think his form has dropped and he is not the inspirational player of 5 months ago, but has definitely done enough to get on the list in my opinion.

Charlie Adam, well the man has created quite a name for himself. His courage, work rate, range of passing, set pieces and goals have seen the Scottish lad become a “must have” for the likes of Liverpool and Spurs (and Man united if you ask me). Should Blackpool have any chance of staying up, they will need to keep their captain fit. He is wonderful to watch, even in a now struggling Blackpool team.

Rafael Van der Vaart, arguably this season’s signing of the season. He started this season with a bang and is Spurs’ top goal scorer with 10 goals. He has fallen of the radar a little for my liking and doesn’t deserve the gong, but his nomination is a just one.He has not been as consistent as Spurs fans would of liked.

The rock, the warrior, Namanja Vidic. He has simply been unbelievable this season. He has just gotten better with the added responsibility of the Man United captaincy. He kept United in the title race until Christmas where they needed to someone to keep them alive and ticking when times were tough. He has scored vital goals, and kept out countless goals with perfectly timed tackles and courageous blocks. He gets my vote, and you get the feeling that should United win the league this season, he will deserve it. I do not think many people will argue with the decision should he win the award.

I have left Gareth Bale for last because I do not think he deserves to be there. Don’t get me wrong, he is a fantastic player, and I think he would be amazing at Man United. But he has not played enough, or made enough impact near the end of the season for me. I love the player, and think he will become one of the worlds most exciting players if he can stay fit, but I do not believe he should be there ahead of Nani. Which brings me to Nani being left out. I think it’s sad that he was not chosen. I truly believe he has been a stand out player, and has changed and won games for Man United on his own. He is not everyone’s cup of tea, but we are judging performances on the field. Regardless of whether you like Nani the person or not, the fact that he was left out when he has been more affective and played consistently well is a little unfair. He in my opinion deserves to be there ahead of Gareth Bale and Scott Parker. Nani’s stats speak for them self. 15 assists and 9 goals. He has 5 assists more than Arshavin in 2nd place (Charlie Adam only has 7, van der Vaart 7,Parker 3, Tevez 6, Nasri 1, Bale 1) and scored the same amount of goals as Nasri and Charlie Adam from midfield. Obviously there are more to each players game then the goals and assists, but when you have stats that so convincingly show that you deserve to be there, why is he not there? Being an idiot is not a good enough answer. Ronaldo is arguably a bigger idiot and he got the recognition he deserved. I am bleak about it but he was nominated, along with Chicharito, for the young player of the year award. I am sure he must feel slightly aggrieved at what has happened, and I am sure he will cry about it.

Gareth Bale and Samir Nasri have also been nominated for this year’s young player of the year along with Nani, Chicharito, Seamus Coleman, Joe Hart, and Jack Wilshire. Seamus Coleman has been a surprise package and another player to come through the ranks at Everton. He is very under rated I feel. Their youth system really is working wonders for Everton as they are always competitive and considering that they do not have the financial backing that similar sized clubs have gotten. I am sure one of them will win it when considering they are in for both PFA and the Young Player award.

It is gorgeous to see no Chelsea players on the list, but can you think of one that might have had a chance?

Vidic gets my Vote considering where Man United is positioned right now, and the quality of his performances have been 2nd to none. If he doesn't win it, I hope Charlie Adam does. He has been incredible in a team that is struggling right now.

The Young Player award i would have to give to Nani with Jack Wilshire and Chicharito in close 2nd.

I have a feeling Nasri will get the young Player award and Vidic the PFA Player award.

Over and out

Fletch
