Flops of the season….

This season has seen many players and teams rise to the challenge creating possibly one of the most exciting league seasons in many a year, however let’s look at the other end of the scale. Let’s see who have had a season they would rather choose to forget and let’s take a look at what signings have not been what the fans had hoped them to be.

Arsenals defence has to be seen as a flop, but maybe that has become expected of late. Arsenal’s defence have been like much like a leaky ship and it has more often than not been the reason for lost points. However for me it is the goal keeper who is more of an issue, the young Pole Szczesny has looked very solid in goal and at the age of 20 in seems he is defiantly going to be a star for the gunners, however he did show that lack of maturity in the League Cup final with a howler of an error (along with Koscielny) that handed Birmingham the victory. So maybe it is maturity that Arsenal need, Almunia is certainly not the answer as he is the flop for me, he needs to be let go with immediate effect as he has instilled no confidence in his Arsenal team mates let alone the fans.

The man who I think will be fresh in everyone’s mind is the biggest panic buy in the Premier League’s history none other than Fernando Torres. 50 million it took of the Blues cash to bring the Spanish Striker to Stamford Bridge, and it has not been a success so far. Although it has only been a handful of appearances the former Liverpool man has failed to live up to the hype and has proved less effective up front than Charlie Sheens AA meetings . Yet to open up his scoring account it appears as though that David Luiz is stealing the hearts of Blues fans, all I can say here is that maybe Karma’s a b**** and he shouldn’t have left Liverpool the way he did.

However he is not the flop of them all I’m still getting there we could think of Steven Ireland a man who was Man City’s player of the season just two seasons ago. Now shipped off to Aston Villa as part of the swap deal for Milner, he has failed to impress and seems to have taken ten steps back. Raul Meriles, now before all you Liverpool fans have a heart attack, when he first arrived he really was really a disappointment, and it may have been Roy Hodgson, but the fact is he sucked. Now however under Kenny Dalglish he seems to have sprung to light and may be my most improved player.

There are more players that I could mention from Squillaci, Dzecko to that attitude ridden Balotelli, but for me the player that takes the cake will have to be Joe Cole, like a slimily for Liverpool’s regression this season all I can say is thank goodness he did not sign for Arsenal. With all the hype that surrounded his signing so much was expected of the former Blues man, yet for all his attributes, I have seen nothing this season. In the past it would be hard to start for Liverpool, but with their worst season in a long time and a team that until recently looked like a Birmingham, Cole would have been thought to be one of the first names on the team sheet, but no bench it is, he is about on form as Rosicky and has been a huge disappointment for a Liverpool side that was so used to success.

So there you have my views on a few flops, I am sure there are many more and feel free to post yours…
