No Man is Bigger than the Club

So bloody Manchester United are trying to steal Samir Nasri from the Guns. How did this rumor and commotion all start? I’m pretty sure it was from that toss Evra telling Nasri if he wants success he has to come to United. Fair enough, United are very successful, but haven’t I heard that you pride yourself on loyalty, passion for the club? Well then Nasri is just for you.
When I say this, I am joking of course. Samir Nasri, when he arrived from France declared his career dream being accomplished in playing for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal. When he arrived he was hailed the next Zidane, but I did not see it. Throughout his first 2 seasons we saw touches of magic, but nothing too special, but Arsenal fans stood by him as he became a favorite amongst fans.
Then came the 2010 world cup, he was not chosen, Arsenal ran to his defense proclaiming the shock and that France would regret their decision (turns out they did). That exclusion from the 2010 Squad proved to be a blessing in disguise for Nasri, enter the 2010/11 season and Nasri was on Fire, goals flying in (great goals that is) and with the absence of Fabregas, Nasri picked up the mantel. There are none that can deny Nasri’s time had arrived.
It is at about this time that player of the year votes go in (which I always have though stupid) and Nasri ended up being a top contender. But as soon as this happened Samir had an injury set back. When he returned, although still good, he was not nearly as good as he was. What my point here is: A player who, a season ago was no one and has yet to have an entire season where he is magical, is now demanding the same amount of money as Cesc Fabregas. This is a bold move.
I can understand Wenger’s hesitance. No man is bigger than a club and if a player can run around kissing his badge the week before, then suddenly throwing a tantrum if he does not get what he wants, then maybe he should go. I have also heard reports that his agent is demanding 160 000 a week. If this is the case, he can get on the next bus to Manchester.
Does Nasri suddenly believe that he is bigger than the club? He still has a lot to improve on if he wants to be seen in the ranks of Fabregas. As for United, the team that proclaims the passion and commitment of their players, do you really want a player that throws tantrums. Look at Berbatov, he claimed his love for Spurs yet when United came knocking, he went without much thought. Would you say he has shown passion, drive and commitment to the club that you all thrive on? I don’t think so, doesn’t he want to leave and isn’t he just plain lazy? Now, contrast that to Hernandez, the little Mexican is clearly a passionate player and you can see it through the way he plays game in and game out.
So I say to you no man is bigger than a club, and if fans are so angry at Arsenal for not giving Nasri what he wants, just think about that. Yes he is good, but good comes and goes. He has to earn that salary and cannot simply demand it because he had a good 15 games in a season. I will be happy to walk you to the bus stop. I only want players at my club that want to be there and if you don’t, then leave.
